Revisiting Indigenous California Varietals
01/16/2020

Among the lesser-know California varietals are some indigenous grapes that have been making a comeback in recnent years. Charbono is one of the grape varietals that traditionally was found in "field blends" since it usually was already growing in vineyards and added some weight and complexity to red blends. Although a wonderful blending grape, when grown correctly, Charbono is proving to have a lot to offer as a single varietal. California winemakers have found through experimentation that Charbono can reveal wonderful complexity with enough acidity to make it a perfect food-friendly wine.
